IPL SKIN REJUVENATION Services:
We all want clear vibrant skin, but nature has a way of sabotaging us with frustrating imperfections. As we age, and sun damage leaves their mark on our skin. Fortunately, skin rejuvenation techniques have advanced beyond the painful procedures of the past. Our Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacial system offers comfortable and effective photofacials for the treatment of sun damage and visible veins.
IPL uses short bursts of high energy light to penetrate into the skin and correct a variety of abnormalities. It has been used to effectively treat the
redness associated with rosacea, removal of broken
facial veins and brown spots associated with sun
damage. One of the advantages of IPL is that it is
non-ablative and noninvasive, meaning it does not
involve surgery or destruction of the skin.
IPL is similar to laser therapies in that it uses a beam
of light to target pigmentation and wrinkles and
eliminate them with heat. However, instead of using
just one color, or wavelength, of light, IPL uses
a range of wavelengths. This gives Dr. Friedrichs the
ability to adjust how deep in the skin the light goes
and what structures it targets. Different structures
in the skin absorb different wavelengths of the light
more effectively. This prevents the use of excessive
energy and damage to other layers of the skin.
IPL treatments typically involve three to five visits spaced three to six weeks apart. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and patients can return to their normal routine immediately. IPL infrequently causes some side effects including mild discomfort during treatment and skin turning pink, freckling, mild swelling and feeling a little sore immediately after the procedure. Side effects are minimal and typically fade within two weeks of the procedure.

TOP QUESTIONS INTENSE PULSED LIGHT
WHAT IS INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY?
IPL Therapy uses short but high intensity bursts of light to target various layers of skin. It can be used for surface veins, hair reduction and photorejuvenation.
WHAT CONDITIONS DOES IPL TREAT?
IPL is very versatile and treats a wide range of problem areas, including rosacea, broken capillaries, freckles, sun damage, wrinkles, scars and acne.
WHERE DOES IPL TREAT?
IPL can treat the face, chest, neck, hands and arms.
HOW DOES IPL WORK?
IPL machines use a specific wavelength (or color) of light to reach a specific depth within the skin. The wavelength is adjusted according to what is being treated.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE LAST?
IPL sessions can be as short as 15 minutes or as long as 2 hours. The duration of IPL therapy depends on the condition and area being treated. Dr. Friedrichs will discuss with you the details of the procedure during your consultation.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
IPL treatments typically involve three to five visits spaced three to six weeks apart.
DOES IT HURT?
Patients often describe the pulses as a hot pinprick or the flicking of an elastic band. Any discomfort is temporary and there is no lasting pain.
IS IPL SAFE?
IPL is a safe, noninvasive procedure with few minor side effects when performed by an experienced provider.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME?
There is no recovery time after the procedure, however, immediately after the IPL treatment, there may be slight reddening of the skin.
WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE INTENSE PULSED LIGHT THERAPY?
People who are prone to keloids or excess scarring, hyper- or hypopigmentation, and are dark-skinned, darkly tanned or do not react well to burns may not be a candidate for IPL. Only a qualified doctor or dermatologist can determine if you are eligible for treatment.
